Hi Phoenix dancers and Middle Eastern Music lovers. I just joined Tribe and wanted to say hello. Some of you know me from my concerts and workshops in Phoenix last year. I'll be coming to Phoenix again on March 31st and April 1st with Souhail Kasper for workshops and a beautiful Hafla with live music and dancing.
If you ever wanted to learn how to sing an Arabic song or perform an Arabic melody on an instrument that you play, please come to one of my workshops. Souhail will also be doing a workshop on Rhythm and Movement especially for dancers in addition to his drumming workshops.
But, even if you can't make it to the workshops please come to the party on Saturday night to dance, listen and have a great time.
I want to get to know the Arizona dancers and musicians so please become my friend on Tribe, write to me, give me your ideas.

Sat, January 27, 2007 - 2:01 AMI've been working with Rachid in New York for the past year now and I can tell you that when he plays and sings it's always a great party and a great show. So, I'm really looking forward to being in Phoenix for the workshops and hafla. I'll get to play at the hafla along with Rachid, Shouhail, Greg Merril, Melanie Nuccio and Joe Borik. Hope I get to see all my Phoenix friends there.
The workshops will be great too! Rachid is a wonderful teacher for all levels. Even if you never sang before the singing workshop would be fun and a good learning experience. I think every dancer should be able to sing at least a couple of the songs she dances to. If you bring an instrument you should know how to play it at least enough to be able to learn a simple melody without too much stress.
Very advanced players or singers might be able to go further in a private lesson with Rachid and he would love to schedule lessons on violin, oud or singing while he is in town that weekend. -

Hope to see you soon. Have I mentioned to you how much you have to do with my involvement in Middle Eastern music? When you brought George Lammams to Phoenix for a workshop in Arabic singing and playing I showed up. At that time I was only marginally interested, making up my own melodies to beats that some of the local Phoenix drummers played. Because of your workshop I decided to go to the Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp in Mendocino where George teaches every year. From there I've met so many great players and have become addicted to Middle Eastern music. Thanks for your inspiration. I hope that bringing Rachid to Phoenix will give something valuable to you as well.

That is so great to hear! Georges, his bro Elias and their band were such fun in San Antonio that Shalina and I just had to work with them. They are a really talented bunch and I'm really thrilled to hear you got from them as much as I got from their willingness to share musical knowledge and emotion and energy.
I hear such fab stuff about the Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp in Mendocino that I hope to be able to go some time in the near future.
Well, I'll keep an eye out for ya on tribe and I hope to see you when you're in town!!
